HURRICANE HARVEY 8/25/17
"Will you get on an airplane in two hours and fly to Beaumont, TX?
Not what I expected my Monday to turn into. On Monday, September 4th I was asked to travel down to Rockport & Beaumont, Texas to take photos of the disaster relief taking place from Hurricane Harvey.
As many of you know, Hurricane Harvey made landfall on August 25, 2017 as a category 4 hurricane with winds of 130mph. After slamming into the coast, Harvey stalled out over Texas and Louisiana for several days causing historic flooding.
It was a whirlwind of emotion. I saw destruction and devastation first hand, but I also saw cities come together.
While on twitter one day after the Hurricane I saw a tweet that I haven't been able to forget about. Someone tweeted "There are a lot of Christians in Texas -- explain why your God let this happen." The response someone had articulated exactly what I witnessed in my short time documenting the disaster.
"I see my God bringing people together of every race to help one another in a time our country was on a verge of race wars."
Below are the images I was able to capture in those cities. My prayer is that they stir up in you emotions. Emotions to help. Emotions to pray. Emotions to not give up on our nation.
As I look through the images, hope fills my heart -- our nation can be the UNITED States of America.
